An Introduction to Magic 4 - Commoners
Commoners
Magic utilized by commoners
is the sort of magic that anyone
can perform. There is no study
or practice required. It just works.
This magic is known as Natural Magic
Natural Magic is the manipulation
of a certain object in a certain way,
while saying certain words in a certain
location to bring about a certain result.
But any of these could be optional.
Items, spoken words and locations are
all considered to be objects in the
performance of Natural Magic.
Each object is a bit of energy
reflected from the Realm of Power
in the Living World. Manipulate
the object here and then you
will manipulate the energy there.
There is a type of Natural Magic
referred to as Passive Magic.
A wizard or a witch can make
a charm or talisman. Simply carry
the item with you to receive the
desired effect. This Magic is weak,
but it works for a commoner.
An opposing magical effort
can negate the effect easily.
The most common type of
Natural Magic is the Keygram.
The practitioner recites a poem
or prayer, a little bit of text.
These small poems are Keys,
for they unlock a process of
the World Machinery
to realize an effect.
String Keys together to
refine your intent and
make the magic more specific.
Put the Keys together in the
order of how the spell should work.
Simply read them aloud
and the magic is done.
Two or more Keys used in
this way are a Keygram.
People have published
collections of Keys that one
may reference to find just
the right text to accomplish
your goal. The poems often
read as nonsense, gibberish
devoid of meaning. You must
peruse the Keys and divine your
own meanings from them.
Meaning can be derived from
literal happenings in the Key
or from symbolic analysis.
Some people like to build a
repertoire of Keygrams to sell
to folks in need of a spell.
You purchase a slip of paper
with the Keygram and recite it
to make it work. Some folks like
to hoard Key collections
and keep them secret in order
to sell Keygrams as a piece of paper.
