Keeper of Lore

Finder Cloudburst Chapter 2, Part 2

Today, I only need
the road to take me to
the Fleagrass market
to find Pebble.

The village this morning
was like any other.
The raid is our past.
We look forward.

The market was a few
buildings containing shops
and numerous carts
brought by crafters.

Pebble Birdeye had such
a cart for what he makes:
paper, ink and quill
pens for writing.

“I am glad to see that
you survived the battle,”
I said, approaching
Pebble Birdeye.

He scoffed and said, “Wasn’t
a battle, just a raid.
They weren’t prepared for
our fierce defense.”

“What can I do for you,
Grub? I can’t imagine
that you need my wares,”
Pebble chuckled.

“Wren Icemud sent me to
collect her package from
you. She said it’s paid,”
I gruffly said.

He laughed at me again
and handed over a
cloth wrapped bundle, tied
with twine. It clinked.

“Be careful with that, Grub.
The bottles are fragile.
If ink spills, it will
ruin her things.”

I took the bundle and
started my walk to Wren’s
across the town square
still spoilt with blood.

My friend Tick Slowtree called
to me from the tavern,
“Grub! Come over here!
Come drink with me!”

“I can not join you, Tick.
I have this task to do
and then a new job.
But I am vexed.”

I described the work of
Finders, but I do not
know where to begin.
I have no leads.

“I can help you with this,
my friend. I was hunting
north of Fleagrass by
the Fierce River.”

“I found where a recent
landslide revealed a door
in the side of a
not so steep hill.”

“What could it be?” I mused.
“That is for a Finder
to find out,” Tick said.
“You should go there.”

I completed my task.
I gave Wren her package.
She paid me quite well
for easy work.

With coins in hand, I browsed
the market for supplies
to aid me in the
cold, brutal wilds.

With new gear in a pack
and swagger in my step,
I left Fleagrass to
seek adventure.
