Keeper of Lore

Opal Grainwind Chapter 4

Married yesterday
to husband Elk,
Grainwind is his new name

Today he and I
go celebrate
by questing for treasure.

A clue I have found
in my new hoard
that leads to a sea cave.

This cave had been used
by sea pirates
many long years ago.

A storehouse of loot
hidden beside
turbulent ocean waves.

I have returned home,
treasure in tow,
my wealth is now increased.

I dragged a small chest
on makeshift sled
ancient coins aplenty.

A baldric I wore
bearing a sword
in scabbard, winter blue.

This sword was renowned
for ancient deeds
‘tis said it freezes flesh.

These things were my take,
my treasure earned,
from questing in the cave.

My horde greeted me
and asked for Elk.
He did not come home too.

My eyes went cold and
through gritted teeth,
I said that he was slain.

I dueled with a man,
‘twas not but bones.
He sought to kill us both.

My husband he slew
Elk became ice
from just a meager wound.

I knew the sword’s name,
from my lore, the
Blade of Frozen Sorrow.

I watched as Elk fell,
then faced my foe.
I took his killer’s skull.

Three more skeletons
murdered with ease,
no one can match my might.

But now I am home
freshly widowed
mighty queen of Coastend.
