The Demon Plague Verses Chapter 4, Part 2
Tong studied the old object.
He pondered the strange text.
He handed them the tablet.
Clearly he was quite vexed.
“I am sad to say
that I can not help.
This is beyond me.”
“Our language, you know,
is Krenpeint, you learned
it in Fisherspoint.”
“I have knowledge of
an older language
from quite long ago.”
“The words imprinted
on the tablet are
not like Old Krenpeint.”
“I could translate it
if I had a text
to compare this with.”
“I believe that I
know someone that can
help with this problem.”
“I belong to the
Learned Scholars of
Icebrunt, a good group.”
“We study ancient
texts and artifacts.
We share our findings.”
“I know a member,
Keeper of Lore is
her name, that is wise.”
“If anybody
has a reference
text, it would be her.”
“I shall send to her
a request for aid.
It may take some days.”
Vilerend and Billet chuckled
at this coincidence.
They've sought her at Soul Slicer's
request, for some days since.
“Perhaps it is Fate,”
Tong said. “Now go rest
at the inn, my friends.”
For the first time in two years,
through suffering and toil.
The wanderers were at ease
and enjoyed their earned spoils.
The inn was peaceful and clean.
The hot food warmed the soul.
The pallets were soft and warm.
The beer was liquid gold.
Tong had made a rubbing of
the tablet's unknown words.
Keeper of Lore must come soon
he sent message by bird.
After some restful days, a
shadow crept on the ground.
Some thought it was just a cloud,
but it circled around.
A dragon swooped downwards from
lofty heights in the air
and landed outside the walls
for battle, folk prepared.
Tong climbed the palisade and
told his people to wait.
This dragon was a good friend
brought here by hope and Fate.
