Keeper of Lore

The Spinner's Writ: Frieye

The mother and father,
the Weaver and the Spinner,
strolled across the world,
enjoying the lush garden
that they created.

The walk was pleasant.
The wind was cool and brisk.
The forests held their dark secrets close.
The rivers were joyous and refreshing.
The mountains granted visions
of breathtaking heights
and distant, hazy plains.

Upon returning to the soil
from the uttermost heights
of the sky, just below the stars,
the mother and father
witnessed their living creations
coming undone.

Plants withered.
Beasts succumbed to disease.
Birds lived until the end of their days,
sated by a life lived fully,
but their strength was pillaged by time.
All things alive were coming to an end.

Their Children were not present.
They could not be faulted for this undoing.
What was this new death?

The Weaver examined the
intricacies of the World Machinery
that regulated the birth and life
of every living thing.
She found that their thrill for life
caused them to burn out
and wither away
after nought
but a few years.

The living fell victim
to exhaustion and disease.
These unintended predators
were just as thorough as
the hawk, wolf and bear.

A newborn Child
sprang into being,
birthed by the mother and father's need.

They named her Frieyewroqhiewuirtollwlloq,
Healing Hand and Cruel Knife That
Balances the Burdens of Life and Death.

The King and Queen spoke
to their Child of her new
domains of governance.
She has duties.

Frieye governs healing and disease,
natural life and natural death.

She healed the creatures and plants
that had a chance to survive.
Those lingering at the edge of
passing were eased into death
with care and dignity.

Soon the plants and animals
were under Frieye's care
and they thrived.
She found that the world would
be overcome by animals and plants.
So she allowed disease and age to
claim those whose time had
come to depart from the world.
Predators took their prey.
Thus the world came into balance.
