The Spinner’s Writ: The Mandate Bestowed Upon the People
Much time had passed
since the First Meal.
The People had learned to live.
Ten people there were,
living in a long house,
built by the Lady of Rain.
Moth, Pine, Fox, Bear and Fawn
Trunk, Cloud, Worm, Leaf and Trillium
These People did as instructed.
Wise Vengeance had taught them
to count and number the days.
He was curious.
Could they succeed at this task?
They were adept at counting time.
They thrived when they knew
to perform their tasks.
Lady of Rain taught them
to grow food and raise animals.
They had plenty to eat.
Soon they began to multiply.
Greedy Noble devised a new amusement.
They sought the aid of Glory and Ruin
to complete the design.
These two Children presented their
new task to the People.
The Children will now be
Aspects of Worship.
Greedy Noble gathered together
the People and their offspring.
“We Aspects require your piety.
You must perform rituals of devotion.
Do this every day.
Great blessings will be set upon
the households and families
that complete the mandated rite.
Woe be upon those that fail
to fulfill the mandate.
For not only will
our blessings be withheld,
but ill luck and tragedy
shall befall you.”
They bestowed upon each family
a knife within a sheath
and said, “This is your sacral edge.
This object is no tool to be used
for mundane tasks.
Keep the blade free from
the toil of wood and blood.”
Lord of Feasts said,
“Invite us into your homes
and we will bring our blessings.
Provide an offering of water
or a sweet morsel and we
shall be pleased.”
Glory and Ruin spoke,
“Let my words illumine your souls
and darken your hearts.
Here now is the Rite of Mandate
to be recited daily.”
